On 29th November 2006, the inaugural Students Against Dangerous Driving (SADD) was launched. The project aims to educate our Youth on the importance of being responsible drivers. The movement is supported by the Traffic Police of Singapore. It is a first ever collaboration between Beauty Alumni Singapore and the Traffic Police team.
Launching a pilot run next year at a tertiary level, the SADD movement will be promoted by members of the Beauty Alumni – comprising members of past and reigning titles including Miss Singapore World, Mrs Singapore Globe, Classic Mrs Singapore, Manhunt and Best Model Singapore.
These ambassadors will act as role models conducting presentations from school to school, using their personal success as stories of motivation. Each ambassador will be accompanied by a member of the Traffic Police who will reiterate the harsh statistics of youth fatalities and car accidents.
Riding on SADD’s Role Model approach, Media Corp Artist Terence Cao has also come on board to promote the movement to Youth. Terence’s success in his acting career was almost jeopardize when he had a brush with the Traffic Police in a drink-driving incident.
President of the inaugural Beauty Alumni, Manbir Chyle Lalwani and the reigning Mrs Singapore Globe 2006 explains, “Many of us title holders have the power to make a difference in our own way. The forming of the Alumni is a culmination of our network, strengths and experiences that can help in making a difference to our community.
And in true glamour fashion, the official launch of the SADD movement has been pegged to the Miss and Mrs Singapore India Pageant 2006/7.
SADD’s Launch Venue Sponsor Vansh is hosting the press conference cum lunch for the launch, will also unveil the Finalists of the Miss and Mrs Singapore India Pageant.
“Vansh has always been a reflection of Modern India at its best. We felt that in many ways, we share a strong association to the Miss and Mrs. Singapore India pageant, because the contestants represent the faces of modern Indian, with their colourful personalities and fresh mind sets, yet holding on to their Indian culture and heritage- which are the values that embodies Vansh.
For the launch of the SADD, we felt it is a good cause to educate students against the dangers of drunk driving, and it is timely for a strong voice like the pageant to be launching this movement”, General Manager, Vansh Eric Tan.
The winners of the Miss and Mrs Singapore India pageant will also join the alumni and join forces to promote SADD next year.
